Recipe: PDF from a chat with Claude

Goal: non-technical teammates generate documents by simply asking Claude — “Make the quote for ACME, 3 days of consulting at €900” — without opening the editor or writing code.

You’ll use: an existing template with clear variable names, the Imprime MCP connector.

Claude finds your templates by title and fills variables by name, so make both self-explanatory:

  • Title: Quote — consulting rather than Template 3.
  • Variables: clientName, quoteNumber, daysCount, dailyRate, total, validUntil rather than v1, field_a.
  • Mark as required what must never be left empty, and give sensible defaults to the rest.
  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
  2. Name it Imprime.io and enter https://app.imprime.io/api/mcp as the URL.
  3. Click Add, then Connect: sign in to Imprime and approve the access.

Details and other clients: Claude (web & desktop) and Claude Code & other clients.

Some prompts that work well:

List my Imprime templates.

Generate the “Quote — consulting” for ACME Corp: 3 days at €900 a day, quote number Q-2026-118, valid until November 30, 2026.

Design an A4 quote template: our logo in the header, a client block, a table of line items and a total at the bottom.

Behind the scenes, Claude calls list_templates to find the template, get_template to read its variables, then preview_template with your values. It answers with images of the rendered pages and a link where you view and print the document.

Because it sees what it rendered, Claude can spot text running out of its box or a misaligned column, fix the layout and preview again before handing it over.

  • Ask Claude to show the values it’s about to use before generating, for documents that matter.
  • Claude computes well: let it calculate total from daysCount × dailyRate and format amounts — but double-check figures on financial documents.
  • Combine with other connectors: “Take the client address from the CRM, then generate the quote.”
